Vizhinjam Port: The Latest Updates
Based on the most recent information available, here is the current status of the Vizhinjam International Seaport:
Inauguration: The Vizhinjam port was officially dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister on May 1, 2025, marking the start of its operational phase.
Operational Agreement: A supplementary concession agreement for commercial operations has been signed between the state government and Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited.
First Phase Launch: The first phase of the port was inaugurated on October 15, 2024, when the first mother ship arrived at Vizhinjam.
Cargo Capacity: Upon full completion of the project, the port's minimum capacity will be 3 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) per year, with the potential to increase to 4.5 million TEUs using automated systems.
Project Completion: According to the new agreement, all phases of the port are expected to be completed by 2028.
Revenue Sharing: It has also been agreed that the government will start receiving revenue from the port from 2034 onwards.
